Griffin Contracting Adds Cutting Edge Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Technology to Quickly and Precisely Locate Buried Utility Lines

Here at Griffin Contracting, we make it a point to continually invest in new equipment and technology to better serve our customers, and to that end we are pleased to announce the acquisition of US Radar’s new Q5C rolling radar equipment to improve our site preparation capabilities.

What is the new Q5C Plus?

US Radar’s Q5C Plus GPR system is an incredibly powerful underground utility location tool that makes site preparation more efficient than ever before. It’s about the size of a small lawn mower and can be easily wheeled around a site where digging and excavation will occur. It’s also a single frequency GPR device with a 500Mhz antenna—the most powerful one on the market, with the ability to identify objects 15 feet below ground. A few of the buried items it can locate appear below:

  • Metallic and non-metallic pipes
  • Fiber optic cables
  • Water boxes
  • Valves
  • Conduits
  • Landfill limits
  • Voids
  • Tanks
  • Buried drums

What are some of its features?

The Q5C Plus makes use of U.S. Radar’s Acquisition Software, which is completely configurable and allows us to mark targets for easy reference and to generate 3D models of the land being scanned.

The software also allows us to use Google Earth to mark the radar data we collect into geographical context. To make life even easier, it even integrates with our CAD systems, allowing us to produce underground utility maps. The data can also be saved to a thumb drive for convenient backup.

Griffin Contracting is always on the lookout for new and innovative equipment that can help us provide our clients with the best service. Our new Q5C Plus will be a huge help to our site preparation services and give our customer peace of mind knowing that utility related delays will be kept to a minimum. For information about our site preparation services or about any of the other services that we offer, be sure to contact us at Griffin Contracting today.
